We are blessed with a great opportunity and have seized this moment to make a difference for our community and the world. Thank you to all who have given us support, encouragement, and who have volunteered over the 18 months. We are extremely grateful for the generosity we have seen by those so willing to help us recover and rebuild. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Greensburg: A City Rebuilding On the night of May 4, 2007, 95% of our homes and businesses were destroyed by a massive EF5 tornado that was nearly 2 miles wide. Although this storm was devastating to our community, we are presented with an incredible opportunity to show the world our strength and to create a new future for those who will live here. We strongly believe that we will be back, better than ever, and will be a model for rural America. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Greensburg: A Green City Greensburg City Council has approved a resolution that all city building projects will be built to LEED Platinum level standards. This makes us the first city in the United States to do this and it shows the world "how green we are." For more information on LEED certification, go to www.usgbc.org. This is a great accomplishment for Greensburg, our future and generations to come! Progress is happening everyday in Greensburg. With the recent completion of the electrical system, all utilities are available to residents. Another project the City is in the process of is the Business Incubator building. This building will be available to businesses to rent a space and to "hatch" their business. This will be located on Main Street and Highway 54. Everyday in Greensburg there is something new happening. We have over 140 new homes in progress and several businesses on Main Street that are in the process of building. The Big Well has a new temporary gift shop to give visitors a place to stop and get information about Greensburg and purchase souvenirs. The Discovery Channel is filming a series about Greensburg that started airing in June, 2008, on their new network, Planet Green. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Greensburg: A City with Hope Although we face challenges in the rebuilding process, we are encouraged by the progress that we see everyday. So, here it is, my life post-tornado. I am just doing what everyone else from Greensburg is doing.... trying to live life minute by minute without Greensburg surrounding me while I do it, and without the tornado taking over every fiber of my being. 2007 was one crazy year to say the least, and I am thankful that for the most part 2008 was a quiet year!

Most days I find it hard to separate the Greensburg part of my life from the rest of me, and am trying to do the best that I can to find the me and the life I had before May 4, 2007. But it's hard to do when the only place I want to be will never be there again. To see the side of me that I try to seperate from the Greensburg side of me check out my second profile. Just click on the first friend on my friends list. It is important to me to not let Greensburg run and control every aspect of my life anymore, so I made a second profile to accentuate that for myself.Greensburg is my "Happy Place." I knew from my first few minutes in Greensburg that the rest of my life would be made there, I just had no idea that it would be made in a NEW Greensburg. Some say the worst things actually bring the best things. I know that someday we WILL go home, we will start our lives over again and it WILL be better. That is the only thought that keeps me breathing and my heart beating when I go through each day doing Oscar worthy acting that everything is okay.Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
~anonymousThe Saturday before the tornado my son and I went on our monthly date, out for pizza and to the theatre to see a movie. We saw "Meet The Robinsons." The theme song from the movie, "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas, is ironic now looking back! This is the music video for the song....
