About Me

I'm Gil McLean, a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based on Long Island, New York. I am a member of Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI) and I am a musician for hire, providing live guitar, bass, keyboard, mandolin and vocals depending on your band's gigging needs.
Visit Surf Music.com Internet Radio ShowIf you have a gig you need covered, I am available with sufficient notice and my rates are reasonable. I play Rickenbacker and Fender Basses; Gretsch, Fender, Epiphone and Ovation Guitars; Casio Keyboards; and I use Fender, Trace Elliot and Mesa Boogie Amplification. I am located in the downstate New York suburbs (Suffolk County), and I have reliable transportation, which makes me accessible throughout the entire Tri-State area. I'm a quick learner, hard working and I play with a good time "in the pocket" feel. Aside from Surf Music, I am comfortable in any oldies or classic rock setting. I've played everywhere from small clubs to 3,000 seat theatres and I have over 25 years recording and live experience.

Visit Surf Music.com"Reigning from his stomping grounds of Long Island, New York, Gil McLean blends an array of British PowerPop and Southern California Surf in creating his signature, Retro Guitar Pop sound. As he strives to create catchy, hummable melodies, Gil embarked upon his musical journey at the tender age of seven. Learning to play the piano during his most poignant, childhood years, Gil also began taking guitar lessons following the death of John Lennon. Framing his music with lyrics that juxtapose the lighthearted nature of girls, summer and surfing with an introspective, melancholy feel, Gil began writing in 1985. Inspired by such industry artists who include The Beatles, as well as The Beach Boys, Gil has taken center stage at various bar, coffee house and concert venues to share his sound with the masses. Since 1983, Gil has been privileged to play industry showcases in New York City and Toronto as a back-up musician in other people's bands. Ultimately, Gil wants to secure his music to be used in various television, film and radio programs. Aspiring to continue writing and recording quality music, Gil McLean is standing on the pulse of reinventing the sound of mainstream, American music." (HITT MUSIC GROUP BIO- 12/4/08.)
