About Me

The Marco Polo Bridge Incident is a Glasgow based 5-piece originating from the collective mind of two one time Dumfries schoolboys, the heros of our tale, Steve and Scottie. Steve and Scottie pummeled recording equipment everywhere, between them recording and producing dozens upon dozens of tracks throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. The project, then 'Soma', along with a number of other side projects, 'Happiness the Healer' for instance, were important in experimenting with a number of recording and producing techniques as well as with the individual sounds that developed over the years. 'Soma' took on greater significance when the main players relocated to Glasgow to persue a wider audience, and because Dumfries was getting a bit shit. Three further members joined to create 'The Marco Polo Bridge Incident' (John Flaherty, mainly a guitarist, Ross Jubin, for drums and the like, and Joe McEvoy, for bass and stuff) By 2007 the band were building a fanbase and were ready to showcase their own unique mixture of genres, citing influences as far and wide as Bob Dylan, Teenage Fanclub, Idlewild and Belle and Sebastian. They are currently working on both recording and gigging, so keep an eye on the Music and Live Shows section.

Influences: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Teenage Fanclub, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Belle and Sebastian, The Byrds, Camera Obscura, King Cresote, John Martyn, The Blue Nile, My Latest Novel, The Postal Service, 18 Wheeler, My Bloody Valentine, Ben Folds, Neil Young, Ben Kweller, The Who, The Beach Boys, Ryan Adams, The Smiths, Travis, The Thrills, Arab Strap and of course Sheena Easton
Sounds Like: Not too many bands sound like other bands really, otherwise there'd be no point in doing it but i suppose. At the minute though, if I had to say, we sound a bit like Teenage Fanclub inviting Snow Patrol round for a barbeque, and later on after everyone's had a few beers they decide to get the guitars out and then Idlewild show up and no ones to sure but they let them join in because they said they were out for a pint with Ryan Adams earlier. But I'm sure there's probably something more accurate I just can't think of right now.

What Im Listening To, with Colonel Keith Kadaver (part 1)

I managed to come across an album of his, "If I Could Only Remember my Name..." I think it's called, and it's fantastic. It's 1971 and so it's kind of obviously a bit dated, but it's still a sterling ...
