With a master’s touch in writing and mixing music, Haig V has brought his international sounds and production expertise to a wide variety of projects. He began producing in 1988, and soon after formed his own label and production company, ZooBone. Since then he has been amassing credits as producer, composer, and remixer. Haig wears other hats as well - he has worked as engineer, arranger and programmer on numerous major recordings.His fame grew from his production/co-composition of the Bran Van 3000 smash hit “Drinkin in L.A.” for which he won a Socan Award for Most Played Radio Song. The album also won two Much Music Awards and a Juno. The song was also featured in big advertising campaigns for brands such as Gap, Rolling Rock Beer and L’Oreal. Haig’s work also ended up on a Big Shiny Tunes (Much Music) compilation selling over 1 and a half million in Canada, and was described as “a highly original mix of the amateurish charm of indie rock and the beat-crazed spirit of the day.” (Mirror)His label has released critically acclaimed music by Mizery (1 on college/campus chart Earshot), Gundei & Dbi Young (dub poet.actress who was recently flown from Havana by Russell Simmons for numerous appearances on HBO’s Def Jam Poetry Slam). And soon, from A Zoobone Sound comes Haig V’s own musical experiment, Peak Hours.Haig V blends Arabic flavours into hip hop, urban and jazz. Though born and raised in Montreal, you can hear his Armenian and Egyptian roots weaving through his music in the colourful Eastern reggae and dub beats.Haig V is best known for his versatility and his ability to push boundaries and cross- pollinate genres. His production choices are always informed by his desire to act as a vehicle for the artist’s own creative vision. Haig V describes himself as a music doctor – and he has repeatedly proven his innate ability to see a song’s full potential and bring it to fruition.He likes to plan soundscapes that are “paintings rather than polaroids”. His film studies have given him insight into cinematography and music synchronization.
