About Me

John Mark Tolbert, aka John Mark, (born August 2, 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa, USA) is a singer-songwriter, minister, and a true worshipper that is set to change the face of music ministry as we know it. His universal look and eclectic worship style has allowed him to minister effectively to multicultural and multi-denominational audiences, always invoking the presence of the Lord. The son of an Apostolic Pastor, John Mark spent 14 years as minister of music at his home church, Christ Temple of the Apostolic Faith (Waterloo, IA). Singing in the church choir, holiday productions, and later leading those same auxiliaries in his church, molded John Mark into the musician he is today. Sounds from artists like the legendary Clark Sisters, The Winans and Commissioned filled the air in the Tolbert home. However, songs played by jazz saxophonist extraordinaire, Grover Washington, Jr. were the choice on long trips to visit his extended family. It was these influences that have shaped the flow of this anointed man of God. John Mark, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (Organizational Communications/ Spanish minor), completed seven of his Spanish credit hours at the University of Valladolid, in Valladolid, Spain. These academic experiences helped to mature John and solidify his passion for music. He served as a musician and assistant choir director at University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls, IA) and as the musician and director for the Wartburg College Gospel Choir (Waverly, IA). John Mark’s musical talents also prepared him for the position of the Assistant Minister of Music of the Greater Tri-State Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Adult and Youth Choir (Iowa/ Nebraska/ Wyoming). Now residing in Kansas City, MO, John Mark is soon to release his freshman album. This project will reflect his gifting for praise and worship while including several choir sets, sounds similar to hip-hop, rhythm and praise, neo-soul, and jazz. Get ready for an experience in worship and praise that is sure to revive your soul!
