Born Taqwanna Thomas, on Jan. 11th, this 80’s Baby is the oldest of her mother’s 3 daughters. Initially a resident of Hughes Springs, TX before her mother packed up and moved her and her sisters to Houston, TX, the hometown of their father, a known pimp in Houston’s 1st Ward, TX. Being from East Texas and moving to Houston was a major adjustment for T~Baby as a child. She recalls, “I remember thinking that everyone was nice and life was all pink clouds and bubble gum!†However, shortly after she moved to Houston’s urban community, South Park, her perception quickly changed. “We stayed in the V.A. (Village Americana Apartments) on MLK & Selinsky in the mid-90’s when the neighborhood was at its worst. Fights, robberies, and murders were at an all time high. I remember my mom having to walk to the store with a gun in her right pocket for our protection.†Although that environment brought grief, it also introduced T~Baby to rap and hip hop music. “The hood got me hooked on Gheto Boys, Ice Cube, 2Pac, 2 Short, Boss, DJ Jimmy, Big Mike, UGK just to name a few.†It wasn’t until 2005, after an unfortunate event that a close friend of T~Baby’s made the suggestion that gave this young talent direction. “A long time friend of mine remembered me rapping and asked did I still do it, I told her Yes!†After that conversation, plans were put into motion to jump start T~Baby’s music career. Many avenues were utilized to fund the young rap artists’ demo project and with hard work and dedication, it was finally done! Now established T~Baby is in full gear, and her N.E.N. (No Explanation Needed) Mixtape Vol 1, is burning up the streetz. She’s done numerous features with local and abroad artists. Thanks to her work ethic she’s opened up for Lil Keke and Young Dro, and it’s just the beginning. She’s constantly on the grind and come up, and also takes it a step further on the Business end to learn the industry by being enrolled in Houston Community College as a Music Business major. T~Baby states, “I’m NO WHERE near typical. So you won’t hear the ‘I’m what the game is missing line out of me. I’m just ME. My music is versatile, my delivery is concise and chopped with swagger, my content is deep and sometimes light, but always original. My music is a reflection of me, therefore I AM MY MUSIC. I will have longevity in this music industry, I will be one of the GREATS.†Currently T~Baby is working on her debut album and single entitiled, “I Do This Explicitâ€.
