About Me
I have been playing the drum kit for just over 5 years, but have been playing in my head my whole life. My Grandfather (Ted Pire) and Uncle (Theo Pire) played professionally when I was a kid, exposing me to a wide array of playing styles. Grandfather Ted was an accomplished Jazz player that crossed over to Country, and Theo started off in the 80’s! I got a taste of the Hair Rock, but he soon turned to Country as well. I started to listen to old records that my Grandfather had and got quite interested in Jazz and Funk (Jazz Messengers, Dave Brubeck, Tower of Power, Gino Vanelli, and so on). Theo got me into Dave Matthews Band, Little Feat, Level 42, and tons more. After a while, in my 20s I caught on and had an itch to play. I joined a Rock band with a guy that I worked with, "Dom" - that was cool! Then a year or so after that, I joined "The Daze", another Rock band, that was cool too, but I needed to make a little more than beer money after buying a ton of gear! So my Grandfather hooked me up with some of his friends, the "Sitter Brothers" - Kenny and Kelly, a Country band. That started my playing career! We played anywhere that would take us, then Kenny left the band to go play with "Julian Austin" and thus the band Jo-Hikk was born. I took over as the go to guy and helped bring the band to almost signing a record deal. I left the band but not after learning a ton about the industry and getting a partial endorsement deal with Epek Percussion out of Regina Sask, I was able to design and have a one of a kind custom drum kit made for me. I have been freelancing for about the last year and have been able to sit in with some great artists and players : Shane Yellowbird , Willie Mack , Big Mike Callan , JoHikk , Melanie Laine , Ken McCoy , Marty Grambo , Craig Moritz , Erin Haley , Lester , Mychela , Lori Kole , Savage West , Cheyenne to name a few . I am also playing in my own band with a couple of the original members of "JoHikk" we are called KixxSin.
