About Me

Jesenk came together in Washington, DC in 2001, and immediately formed a reputation for intense, violent shows where the performance would spill out from the stage across the whole room. Their following exploded after awe-struck reviews from the local press "reporting from the front lines." For some reason, a movement grew in the audience that involved showering the band with beer bottles during the set closer, 'Ships...', and many gigs were completed in rivers of blood, smeared around the room by the roaming, writhing crowd. They were banned from the smaller venues but they had outgrown them anyway, and began putting on their own shows at the Black Cat, and later the 9:30 club. There was time for a support slot on the Foo Fighters' US tour, exciting reviewers in local papers around the country. The major labels came sniffing round, something that took the band by surprise, but by then, drug and alcohol abuse was tearing them apart. Seemingly unable to choose between the labels hounding them, they played just a few more shows in DC where their problems were put on public display. The band would brawl on stage and the music had become a sideshow. They disbanded in 2003 without warning, leaving the unsuspecting record labels to continue their hunt for months, unaware they were being used for free dinners.Their status grew over the next couple of years to legendary proportions, with A&R men telling stories over drinks of the "perfect band that got away", and fans telling their friends of the early days of Jesenk's exhilirating shows. Luckily, they recorded a few demos, collected here.Their drummers included a shadowy figure known only as DJ, a chirpy Colombian named Claudio, pint-sized powerhouse Kurt, and ex-Mother May I Rob Lebourdais who played on these recordings. The band scattered, Stuart to LA, Chris back to London, and James stayed on in DC. Mike at Actiondale, VA, recorded these tracks.

"Youre too old to be a young author..."

My agent, Sid, says this to me over the phone as I'm crashed out on my sofa, shattered and eating a duty free-sized Toblerone. I have called him for a pep talk, a pick-me-up from the man who believes ...
