** DOUBLE BASS / ELECTRIC BASS **
Bobby Kokinos hails from Anderson, Indiana where he graduated from Madison Heights High School. Bobby started his musical career in middle school where he played guitar and quickly moved to electric bass. During his time in high school, he was the recipient of twelve ISSMA band awards, three Outstanding Musician awards for the Madison Heights Singers Show Choir, and three Purdue Jazz Festival Outstanding Musician Awards.
After high school, Bobby attended Ball State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences with a Minor in Double Bass Music Performance. Under the direction of world renowned bassist, Dr. Hans Sturm, he completed his minor along with a bachelors degree in May of 2003. During his time at Ball State University, Bobby participated in many ensembles such as the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, University Singers, Theater Group, Latin Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Lab Ensemble. The Jazz Lab Ensemble provided the opportunity to play with some of jazzs biggest names such as Ed Thigpen, Wyclef Gordon, Dennis Diblasio, Harold Jones, and many others. He has also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. Bobbys electric bass studies include instruction from Jon E. Gee, bassist for John Mellencamp.
Currently, Bobby is an active electric bass and double bass player in central Indiana. Groups he currently plays with The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestras Ultralite Combo, and The Uptown Quartet. He has also appeared on numerous studio sessions with local rock and contemporary music bands.
