About Me
Baby Downn is a songwriter, singer and rapper. His style of music includes hip-hop, R&B, soul and reggae. He grew up in Carson, California, where he always had a love and passion for music. His musical influences are Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, Mary Wells, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Brenton Wood, Fat Larry, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Earth Wind & Fire, The Emotions, Special Delivery, Lakeside, The Bar-Kays, Side Effect, Skoolboyz, The Whalers, Gregory Isaacs, Glen Washington, Luciano, Sizzla, Beres Hammond, Dana Dane, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, NWA, Notorious BIG and Tupac. As a child, he sang in his church and school choirs, dreaming of one day sharing his gift with the world. In 1995, Baby Downn joined a hip-hop rap group, known as Brownzville. It was then that he decided to formulate that childhood dream to reality, where in his aunt's garage (the infamous Gee'Rage) he began working at his craft and started making music. Originally, he was chosen to create and sing the hooks for the group but soon began writing and rapping his own verses. They released their first single, Breezin', in 1998. The single was a hit and reached Polynesian communities worldwide, including the U.S., Samoa, New Zealand and Australia. In 2000, the group released their debut album titled, Bust Yo Eye, which displayed Baby Downn's extraordinary diverse talents, as a writer, singer and rapper. Since the Fall of 2006, Baby Downn has been working on his solo project, to be launched in the Summer of 2007. Currently, 4 of his songs are on regular radio rotation in New Zealand: Breezin' (since 1998), Intro, To Live and Survive For, and Wicked Man. Baby Downn is featured on mainstream songs, such as Boo-Yaa Tribe's, Beautiful Thang, and Transplant's, What I Can't Describe, and has worked with other major label artists overseas. He also writes, sings and raps for various fellow indie artists.
