Hailing from New York City, four rappers, E, SK, L-Wonder, and Trademark under the name of A-Squad, are preparing to not only take their music to the next level but to take the industry by storm. The energetic group's debut 2007 release, “Straight Outta Left Field,†is a raw hip-hop mixtape that showcases each artist's individual style, in addition to showing their strength and passion as a group.
A-Squad's eclectic musical tastes are apparent throughout the content of their mixtape; from catchy head bangers to smooth, soulful songs reminiscent of the 70's, they capture not just a segment of it, but fully explore the world of hip-hop through their talents. The unsuspecting group of friends came together in 2002, but little did they know that their passion for music would go beyond their bond as friends. They didn't officially start the rap group until 2004, some years later after they all had met.Life was rough for Brooklyn born $-Kay (Samson Kollock) . Everything around him was negative, and so it was natural that he took on some of the things that he was surrounded by. However, he started to take his life in another direction, once he noticed how a lot of people he knew were incarcerated or dead. Instead of following the lives around him, he decided to live through his music. He gained a lyrical, versatile style that gave him the title as “bridge†in the group. $-Kay's talents enable him to rap about anything, from the superficial to real, from pain to joy. His honesty, storytelling abilities, and his humility not only gives him a personal style, but brings a flair to the group as a whole.E (also known as Eddie Feliciano) grew up on the same block as $-Kay, so they share some of the same experiences not only as artists, but as friends. Through all the stress they had to endure, E and $-Kay developed a group called The Regulators. Within that group, E didn't only cultivate his rhymes, but his image. With his well polished looks and undeniable charm, E is known as the ladies man of A-Squad. Despite the hardships he had to endure, his persona gives the group more of a commercial appeal, which easily moves crowds.Trademark (Akeem Reed) also grew up in Brooklyn, and he was the third and last member of The Regulators. E had bumped into him in high school and they recognized each other's talents. He tends to express more emotion in his rhymes than his fellow A-Squad members because of his traumatic past. His experiences are his constant inspiration to write and to tell his story. Trademark's thought provoking subjects are an integral part of his signature style. It not only brings depth and substance to the group, but he always reminds the other members where they came from and where they need to be.L-Wonder, born Lorenzo P.nas, spent his childhood in Jamaica, Queens where his love for music grew into an expression of his life, challenges, aspirations and creativity. From pain comes beauty, and this is especially true for L-Wonder. At the age of four he had to leave his native country in South America to escape a revolution, and his mother bought him to America in hopes of a better life. In New York, he faced many hardships growing up in a poverty stricken area. Now he uses his past as an inspiration to be a better person, and to set a good example through his music.Having emerged from intense and challenging life situations, A-Squad is now ready for the public. Thanks to the group's perseverance, diversity, and confidence, the four man group will move audiences everywhere.
