About Me

Hurricane Katrina was one of the strongest storms to impact the coast of the United States during the last 100 years. With sustained winds during landfall of 125 mph (110 kts) (a strong category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale) and minimum central pressure the third lowest on record at landfall (920 mb), Katrina caused widespread devastation along the central Gulf Coast states of the US. Cities such as New Orleans, LA, Mobile, AL, and Gulfport, MS bore the brunt of Katrina's force.
It was not Hurricane Katrina but all of the events that took place during and after that have changed my heart forever. I am not from the area nor did I have family there. I am however from America. I remember hearing people say "oh those poor people". I want everyone to understand that those people ARE you and I and we are them. Our government sat and watched while New Orleans drowned. What would make you any different to them? We ALL knew that those levees would not withsatnd this type of storm and we ALL knew one day this storm would come. Once I got over the most part of the sadness I became angry. While I still have some of those emotions I have decided to turn it into a positive thing.
WE ARE ALL THE SAME. WE ARE ALL HUMAN. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND REMEMBER HOW YOU FELT WHEN YOU SAW THE DOME, WHEN YOU SAW OTHER HUMANS DROWNING AND PLEADING FOR THEIR LIVES TO A COUNTRY THAT PROMISES TO TAKE CARE OF US YET SAT AND DID NOTHING. THIS SHOULD BE THE TIE THAT BINDS. FIND THE LIGHT IN YOUR HEART. EMBRACE IT. LEARN HOW TO LET IT SHINE EVEN BRIGHTER. THERE IS NO TIME TO WASTE. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.

You do not have to be from the Gulf Coast to write to your Congressmen and demand that it is rebuilt along with levees secure enough to ensure this never happens again. If you look to the left side of this page you can clearly see that it is possible. I am currently working on getting contact information for all states as well as a letter template that you can just print, fill in, sign and send.

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE....It must be rebuilt!
