About Me
I'm the guitarist/singer with a Denver-based band called Makanak, and have initiated a MySpace page to hopefully distribute our album (completely and utterly free, download and share at will!), which can be found over at www.makanak.com. We are a two-piece that sets out to sound like a five-piece and does pretty well from time to time. My partner-in-crime, Dale, is a synth/programming whiz and I'm your basic self-taught punk fretboard abuser; we played in bands back in our native Omaha seperately (me in Bled On Waves, he in CVP--which, to be honest, did feature me as well, so not all that seperate), moved out here for post-college jobs in the late 1990s and commenced with consuming large amounts of Tusker lager and making Willy Bobo samples into techno rockers (some other much more motivated musician appears to have done that since, but while ours was never heard, we did it first). Slowly but surely this dicking around turned into 10 serviceable songs, and we home-recorded them using new-fangled "computers" and put them out ourselves. We've played at such Denver nightspots as 7 South (now the High-Dive), Herman's Hideaway and Crickett on the Hill, somewhat amazed that we could reproduce the sound of five keyboards, a drum machine and various other bells and whistles pretty solidly on a stage.Reception was good, the world was ours for the taking...and then we each got married, started working a lot more and in my case started full-fledged families. So we're not so much with the forward motion band-wise anymore. That said, we've distributed the album (guess I should tell you the clever title: "A D D Genius") to a variety of friends nationwide and internationally, which has led to a few pockets of random fandom and even one song, the ever-so-weepy "Dipped," being used in a Swedish student film and being played a few times on local radio (Alf over at KTCL 93.3 was kind enough to give us a spin, and hey, lookit that--he's got a myspace page too, http://www.myspace.com/alfradio). Anyhoo, we aren't particularly active at this point but hope to be again, and in the meantime would like to share the fruits of several years' worth of labor with you, the random person viewing this page. I guess I'll fill in some snazzy cultural totem names below to cross-pollinate with those who might have similar interests--isn't that how this fancy thing works?--and once again invite you to visit our homepage, www.makanak.com and download our album A D D Genius for free.
