JP DEN TEX

About Me

JP DEN TEX (originally from Amsterdam, Holland) is "an emotional nomad, bridging the gap between Americana, Pop and traditional European genres such as French chanson". Other pundits prefer to tag his unique blend 'Beatnik Americana'. Anyway, JP DEN TEX has been very successful in putting his cosmopolitan message across lately. In 1998 he released his widely acclaimed 'Emotional Nomads' album: the musical diary of a passionate love affair ending on a sudden cruel note. "Painstakingly honest, that's how I'd like to be..." JP wrote in the CD booklet. In 2000 this album was followed by the moody 'Hotel Yankee Tango' - and later by the capricious, almost lighthearted 'La Jeune Fille Au Chewing Gum'.
On 'Bad French' (2007) and 'American Tune' (2009) JP's alter ego is on his way to the America's, or more precisely California... A European writer - who's been temporarily residing in NYC to assemble material for a new book - wants to get to the bottom of the secret behind the American Dream ("Does It Still Exist?"). The unbreakable dream that has been intriguing continental minds ever since World War II, despite all their Old World condescension & irony. To reach his objective the guy sets out on a low-budget, adventurous fact-finding journey from the Big Apple to San Francisco, in a rented Toyota. Love, hate, crime and punishment will unremittingly accompany our traveler on his way out West - and thereby slowly transform his Old World way of thinking... Instead of revealing the secret behind the American Dream the journey - to his great and bitter-sweet surprise! - ends up handing him the key to the mystery of his own, fundamental loneliness.... Film maker Valerie Granberg made a nice, natural 'live clip' of one of the key songs of the song cycle ("Chatting with Rachmaninoff"). You can watch it here:
