About Me

i was hurled onto this planet via mother nature's maddening force back in the year of 1976...been tinkerin' with guitar for approximately 23 years. i also is a guitar instructor, improviser, composer, sound experimenter, etc. i engage in other sound emitting activities such as: singing, hollering, playing kazoo, playing various stringed instruments and keyboards, playing on drum machines and found objects, manipulating a variable speed cassette player, playing my stereos and boomboxes, etc. blah, blah, blah. (links/info regarding current and past musical projects are in the 'band members' section over there on the L). *note:..if you feel you could utilize any of my aformentioned services (i.e. guitar instruction/live or studio guitar work) , message me on the myspace or e-mail: [email protected] note: i teach beginner to intermediate levels on the guitar.
my musical interests are relatively vast. blah, blah, blah...rock, jazz, classical, blues, reggae, punk, metal, noise, etc. i like highly expressive and uncomprimising stuff the best. i tend to favor an avant-garde / experimental slant, these days. i enjoy many so-called 'classics' within most genre realms, too. i also gets into some o' them there sub-genres, non-genres and anti-genres...
i started dabbling in music at the approximate age of 7 with piano and quickly switched to studying the geetar (around 1984). the first rock riff that i remember learning to play is Steppenwolf's 'Born To Be Wild.' blah, blah, blah. i was into pop, rock, rap and metal in the early 80s and later got into classic rock and blues. i jammed around my hometown quite a bit. i often jammed wit older dudes. this concerned my mother. i remember she once said something like, "you would probably jam with the devil if you could!" that was an interesting thing for her to say. my friend Wayne Sylvis was a major influence on me. he showed me how rad a Gibson Les Paul could sound thru an Ibanez Tube Screamer distortion into a tube fender deluxe amp. (note: see good 'ol Wayne in my pics). blah, blah, blah. the most important influence W.S. had, however, was introducing me to improvisational rock guitar. he turned me on to Frank Zappa's 'Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar' which sent my young mind to the outer realms, for that time! whoo! W.S. was also the catalyst for some of my earliest instrumental jam sessions along with his son 'GRANDMA', who plays dem drums.
i encourage everyone to be as expansive and open-minded as they can be when it comes to listening to and studying musics and sounds. blah, blah, blah. there is an 'essence' to most everything. i try to decide if it is 'good at what it's supposed to be' whether I like the music or not. this can be a massive task!...and if you read all that, maybe you know me better -or- more than you wish you did. blah, blah, blah.
sincerely,
kG.
