About Me

I recently returned from a six month sabbatical researching motorcyclists. Data were collected in Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. I am also in the process of designing a similar study on road and mountain bikers utilizing structural identity theory. Results of the motorcyclist study were featured at the National Social Science conference in Las Vegas, Nevada (April 09) and are scheduled for presentation at the Pacific Sociological Association conference in San Francisco (October 09).
Summer is here and I am busy embracing my "one thing" - roaming the west. Staying in one place is not (and has never been) for me. I am currently making camp in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Days are spent hiking the dogs, fishing for trout on the Big Horn river, riding my mountain bike, reading, and relaxing in the 'fountain of youth.' While in Colorado, Ginger and I attended an archaic social ritual and dined at our favorite restaurant in Boulder, the Himalayan, YUM!!!! We also did some casino hopping in Black Hawk and Central City. I will be heading north into Montana after the 4th of July. We will camp for a week or so in Red Lodge and hike the Bear Tooth pass area. After Red Lodge, the pack and I will head into Yellowstone and further north into the Bitterroot range of Montana/Idaho. I want to visit an out of the way place called Lolo hot springs as it's mentioned in the movie "A River Runs Through It" (one of my favorite movies). I have been on the road for a month and am saddened that I only have another month and a half left. So, feel sorry for me!
And thus continues the Web...

My Life is in Ruins! (VIDEO attached)

The pack and I spent two days searching the high desert for the ruins of Charleston. Charleston was built near the San Pedro river in 1879, a bit later than Tombstone, but probably more violent. Charl...

WEST is my destination!

I love living in RV parks as I'm surrounded by fellow 'travelers' (the in-group designation for RVers). RVers are not afraid (or unable) to leave home for more than a few weeks at a time. They don't '...

Carp

Today I saved a carp. I was walking along the Shoshone river when I came across a fisherman carrying a rather large fish. I asked him what kind of fish it was and he replied, "Oh, I'm not gonna eat it...

Worms

I was walking along the shore of Yellowstone Lake this morning when I noticed a plastic container on the shore. Evidently some cruel, thoughtless bastard left it without empathy for what lay inside, 8...

What does the desert mean?

The pack and I spent a lot of time over Xmas break hiking in the Sonoran desert near Tucson, Arizona. We were exploring a 'dry wash' one afternoon when we came upon pe...

What the hell is a blog?

First of all, what the hell is a "blog" and why would I want to "post" one? When someone answers this, I may decide to post one, not until.
