About Me

I began playing guitar at the age of 12 and haven't stopped since! I went to Five Towns College on Long Island after HS and learned all that I could. It wasn't about the "Degree" ( even tho its great that I have a BA) it was about giving myself tools to live my dream of making music and performing and sharing it with music fans! I've always been very open minded and had a lot of family/friends who listened to different music - so as a result I've learned to appreciate and enjoy a wide variety of sounds ( see influences<<< ). During college I really got into writing my own stuff and was in a band with some friends from the area I grew up in East Northport/Northport/Commack, NY. There were different members over time and different names. FAR , Black Onyx. We actually recorded a handful of tunes. A couple are available for download on my Snocap store below>>I was in the middle of re-forming what was left of Black Onyx when I got a call from Steve Speelman asking if I'd like to play in Labyrinth as a keyboard player mostly. He had answered my add. Originally I was looking for a keyboardist to cover the parts I was writing so I can play guitar. Steve to me was more commited to being in a band/being a musician than anyone in FAR or Black Onyx that I knew so I thought "lets try it". For some reason I did actually think I would play guitar too at some point tho it never really happend. ( My guitar parts that I "wrote" were used and played by Steve in some of the tunes like "DREAM OF LOVE" we would later write together-so I was happy for that ) So as it turned out I was in the band Unified Past from 1995-2005 ! We made 2 albums ( and some other stuff under the name Labyrinth which had to be changed because another band took it already) "From The Splintered Present Surfaces" and another one called "The Quintal Concept" It should be enough material for a double album almost. Despite the fun time I had with U.P. I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the role I took up. Even tho I did in fact write a lot of stuff that was keyboard oriented, I didn't realize that I was painting myself in a corner too when I decided to commit to being a keyboard player full time. Quite frankly- I underestimated how much not playing guitar, not being able to develope etc -frustrated me! I realized that YES there should be a perspective here. That as much as I enjoyed the experience in the band which I signed up for, I really needed to get back to my hearts original path musically which is writing songs as a guitarist/singer and having the keyboard skills there as a bonus when I want to use them. Besides feeling like it was time to move on from U.P. I was tired-ofNY/Long Island Its a beautiful place but it/s a tough place to live for me personally so I wanted to move and did to Reston,Va. The change of scenery is exactly what I needed! And I was able to finish up my keyboard tracks and vocals for "Quintal Concept" in time before my move :-) When I arrived here in Va, I began a "Second Life". So now I've returned things to their proper perspective and have written a new solo double album called "THE TRAIL" which focuses on a very bare bones intimate vibe that I was after when I began the project in 2004. I like to mix it up of course so theres a good amount of electric guitars to go with the acoustic textures that dominate this project. Among my brand new tracks the longest that I've written to date entitled "Inside The Mirror Of The Universe" . As an after thought I do plan recording bass and drums for these songs on "THE TRAIL" at a future date. However this is the way I wanted them to sound initially. I just fell in love with this type of sound. In time when I record the "full monty" versions -fans will be able to enjoy the best of both worlds with "The Trail"! And I plan (after satisfying myself with some solo things ) to return to another aspect of my original path which was to form a band from scratch instead of joining an established one. For now its all about "THE TRAIL" in 2009! I hope you enjoy the material as I put it on here for you to sample and download on SNOCAP. Peace .. and ROCK ON! -VINNY .. ..Catatonia- Live @ Jimmy's Old Town Tavern 12/07

Band Members: Vinny Krivacsy
Influences: RUSHAnd then everybody else! Most classic rock bands but my faves are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, Genesis, Queen, ZZtop, Van HalenI absolutely love Harder/Heavy Rock including some Metal and even harder bands but I am very picky I think . I guess I tend to like the ones who have the most talent like Ozzy when he had Randy Rhoads, Triumph, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Tool, Alice In Chains, Opeth a more recent band has grabbed my attention when they opened for Dream Theater -who I would say is my fave band besides Rush that is still active. Other bands I love - U2, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, KillersAnd by no means am I unaware of all the great underground stuff there is .. It's easily some of my favorite music ever! I usually don't remember every other bands names but I just love hearin what people are doin . Theres just a feast of stuff! I listen to college radio all the time on the internet.. Love seein local bands as well at places like 9:30 club or in Arlington- Iotas/Galaxy Hut .. theres one called Juniper Lane I saw live awhile ago .. Really liked them. The main influences as far as the direction for this new album of mine "The Trail" without a doubt the late Isaac Guillory and Jesse Colin Young that I heard on this great internet station "anetstation.com" as well as many other artists played on their playlists. ( You can find out more info on those artists at www.anetstation.com - it's a real gem of the internet in terms of great radio) I just loved how mesmerizing they sounded and doing it with pretty much guitar and vocals and even at those times where there was more in the way of bass/drums it still had that bare bones, intimate sound going on. I just loved it and I found my songs just happened to be pointing in that direction -so I went with it!Theres way other music that I enjoy. I'm pretty open minded - if I put on a classic rock station I'd say I enjoy most of whats on there although nowadays it sucks in that they don't play album cuts like they used to so the stuff they play feels overplayed lol. Nevertheless theres too many to list but those are my main influences above at least from the rock standpoint which is pretty much my favorite music- what I listen to MOST of the time.I still love Jazz, Blues, Ambient instrumental stuff and really anything that moves me.
Sounds Like: I love many styles and have many many influences. Rock is my favorite ( Progressive and Alternative Hard/Heavy Rock ). However, I hate labels and just think of my music as Vinny K music :-) (more)
