I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a WRITER/SINGER/ACTOR/PREACHING-POET. I love God with all my heart and I love His people. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a lil' crazy and I got mad flaws but I am a product of my life experiences.I've got a story and the conclusion is simply "Without God I could do NOTHING!!!" I was 4 years old when my Great-Grandfather the late Rev. John Wesley Jones (straight holiness preacher) prophecied over my life and declared I would preach the Gospel because I never asked him about "God", I always asked about "The Bible". Bishop Lewis Evans would second this motion about 6 years later and of course Rev. Claude May would put it into action another 11 years after that! My first published work was a poem entitled "MARTIN" in 1985 and it is still on display (21 years later) at the MLK in Atlanta, GA (where I now live...IMAGINE THAT!). It was through Victor and Jackie Petty (who gave me my first solo "I'm Just A Nobody" at age 7) that I was introduced to the late Rev. Donald R. Vails. Soon, I was introduced to Rev. James Cleveland and the Gospel Music Workshop of America which introduced me to pretty much everybody else!!! All of this happened before the age of 10 so at the time I didn't see a ministry in the making, I was just ELATED to be around all of these people I looked at as stars, ya dig? And WHO KNEW that 20 years later I'd be serving on the Board of Evangelism for the very same organization??? When NEW EDITION came on the scene I formed a mimic group called "FOUR OF A KIND" with Michael Taylor, Larry Jones and Zane Johnson and even wrote my first R&B tune entitled "ALL ABOUT GROWIN' UP". And then RUN DMC'S "RAISIN' HELL" album dropped so I changed my mind and decided to form a rap group with my cousins Rodney and Terrell Jenkins. We were called "THE RAPPIN' 3" And we penned a song together called "THE RAPPIN' 3" I listened to "PROUD TO BE BLACK" of that DMC album so much that my maternal grandmother STILL knows the words!!! The first gospel group I was a member of was called "A CHANGE" and it was founded by Akowa Willis while we were still in elementary/middle school (I was in elementary and SHE was in middle...LOL) by the time we got to high school we had reformed the group into "JOYFUL NOISE" even though personnel remained pretty much the same. By the grace of God these are still the same people I work most closely with in music ministry, although now we're "Minister Alfred DuBose and SOULED OUT". For quite a few of my teenage years I had the chance each year to serve as guest teacher/director for KENNY WELLS' Good Friday concerts and for NEW BETHEL's Youth Choraleers Annual Concert [GETTING SCHOOLED AND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT!!!!}Most of us in Joyful Noise also sang with ALEX GOSS & DIVINE PRAISE cuz we was just family like that(early 90's) and I MUST NOT FORGET my years with EVANGELIST LINDA ROSS AND THE VOICES OF PRAISE (1994-PRESENT) EVANGELIST ROSS and DAWN BYERS schooled me during my MOST formative years musically. NOW HERES THE TRUTH: I sing a LITTLE, I play a LITTLE MORE, but my passion has always been and always will be as a WRITER (song, screen, stage, verse and prose) because its the one art form I can ALWAYS do EXCELLENTLY(2 God B the Glory). So all of my ambitions and artistic ventures are really supplementary to my desire to be one of God's Greatest Writers. I'll let Akowa and Mia and Queeta and 'nem do the singing cuz they're better than me. (SEE WHAT WISDOM CAN DO FOR YOU????? LOL.) .. music layout @ HOT FreeLayouts.com MyHotComments
