Brass Jaw

About Me

The critically acclaimed saxophone quartet Brass Jaw, already well known for challenging the boundaries of “chamber jazz” have now
extended them still further.

The inclusion of the ace trumpeter Ryan Quigley creates a new ensemble that is truly unique in sound and direction.
Brass Jaw bristles with the excitement of a completely original set including the odd quirky arrangement of well loved jazz standards, all written and arranged by this stellar line up of Scottish Jazz musicians.
Following their hugely successful national tour of the United Kingdom in 2005, which also saw them perform live on BBC Radio Scotland, Brass Jaw have seen a rapid rise in popularity, culminating in the release of their début album “BURN”.
2006 saw them perform at the Clusone Jazz Festival (Italy), Glasgow International Jazz Festival, Islay Jazz Festival and a second appearance at the award winning Wakefield Jazz Club.
In 2007 Brass Jaw completed their second national UK tour, Highlights included launching the Lancaster Jazz Festival, performing in London's famous Pizza Express Jazz Club and The Scarborough Jazz Festival, where they performed to their largest audience to date of approximately 600 people.
" They seemed to have done it all in the first number, but this wide-ranging virtuosity was maintained throughout the gig . . . . chamber jazz stands or falls by its writing. Theirs is top notch. Strong structures and a grasp of tradition give the ensembles an identifiably and richly harmonised sound."
Financial Times

"Meticulously rehearsed yet free-spirited, this was brass with class."
Evening Standard

"Above all, they communicate a feeling of enjoyment alongside the passion, a good time that travels freely from stage to audience."
The Herald

"..their attractive arrangements and sharp-edged interplay bring the music vividly alive."
The Scotsman

". .played a programme full of intrigue and surprise, brought about by their skilful application of dynamics, steadfast discipline, attention to detail and superb musicianship."
Nottingham Evening Post
