About Me

Reckless in the Minivan

91.7 FM or www.whus.org

Tuesdays 10-midnight

Born and raised in the 860, Benny Shaik got his radio start as a blues DJ as a Junior in high school at UConn's Radio for the People, 91.7 FM WHUS. After experimenting for a semester with his graveyard freeform show "The Good Times Party Brigade," Shaik was introduced to hip-hop by then station Operations Manager and Hip-Hop Director Andy "DJ Stereotype" Pitre, now with Fresh Press Media. Shaik soon fell in love and has been working to advance the hip-hop community every since. After high school, Shaik spent a year at DePaul University in Chicago, IL, where he DJ'd a show at WRDP Chicago, only to return triumphantly and with much fanfare to WHUS as a new, wiser and well travelled man. His favorite food is a tie between pizza and ice cream and he enjoys long walks on the beach and quoting rap lines to people who don't like hip-hop, then explaining to them that "they just have to listen to the song." Listen for him soon on a radio near you.
