About Me

in a bar about 10 years ago jon, aad and jonny were having a drink. somehow by the end of the evening a record label was born. (the name came the same evening toasting the idea - proost means cheers in dutch and aad is dutch!). proost is the name of the label rather than a band but we have released several albums without a band name as such so proost kind of feels like our identity.

over 10 years proost has produced several albums. we mainly set it up so we could create our own music and that's been the bulk of our offerings to date. we won't shamelessly plug them all here. you can visit the proost site if you are interested to see what we have produced to date. it's all pretty chilled and on a spiritual tip. music is close to spirit at least it is for us. we have been part of a loose network of artists and creatives that have tried to reimagine the spiritual journey in ways we can relate to, that seem natural and to embody faith in the heart of everyday life.

we are about to enter a new phase. we plan to transition to downloadable content. we're also diversifying in several ways...

we'll carry on publishing music but plan to try and encourage new people to get involved. we are going to publish movies/audio visual pieces - creative inspiring stuff we are also going to experiment with books - mainly because the digital publishing revolution makes it possible and we figure it should be fun - why not?! we want to start a project to identify young talent and publish their stuff.

we're aiming to get our act together by next summer with a party and relaunch planned for greenbelt 06 . there'll be all the old stuff uploaded, a bunch of new material and from then on a cycle of new content each month through the year. that's the plan. we're excited about the new dreams - hope we can pull it off. watch this space.

we've uploaded 4 tracks from current albums to give you a flavour.

space and time - very chilled, rosie's beautiful voice creating a vibe. this is from spirit of the new , a collection of alternative worship songs

justice - from backbone , an angry political protest album telling stories from encounters in palestine. this tells of a visit to the birthplace of amos, a radical prophet in the old testament famed for his call to justice. his ancient message calling for justice seemed pretty poignant on a day when we met palestinians whose houses had been bulldozed by the israeli army.

letting go - this is a spoken meditation over ambient music from our big hitter the labyrinth which has sold over 35 000 copies worldwide - that sounds impressive eh? it's a long story but the figures are high because we worked with an american company to publish the labyrinth in a kit form which includes 6 cds in each kit but even if you divide by 6 it's a lot as far as we are concerned. try the digital version - a kind of online spirituality - wonderful.

holy space - bit of an old classic from the grace album which has stood the test of time in our humble opinion. an instrumental track.

thanks for dropping by. watch out for the relaunch next year (07)
