I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

It's about time that I updated my profile a bit - still no pimping of it or any of that crap. This Web 2.0 stuff is already slow enough. Anyways, I am a 30-something English male. I have a loving girlfriend, and we have a daughter born 22nd July of 2008 at just 8lb and 15oz.
My interests include classic computing, writing (some low form of journalism mostly), indoor/outdoor climbing, swimming, playing Squash (still don't know the rules), and ignoring celebrity as far as possible. I much prefer listening to (digital) radio than watching TV (unless it's Sci-Fi or factual stuff, Brainiacs springs to mind; Tickle is a legend) and I like to play "retro" games (or retro-styled games) over its modern contemporaries.
I took the world's shortest personality test. It was more or less right (a case of good high-level programming and phycohology, methinks), thought I still wouldn't agree with the word "funky". The results were:

Your Personality Profile

You are funky, outdoorsy, and down to earth, while you may not be a total hippie, you're definitely one of the most free spirited people around. You are very impulsive - every day is a new adventure, however, you do put some thought behind all your actions. Still, you do tend to shock and offend people from time to time!
The World's Shortest Personality Test

Kind of sounds more like my mate Tom. Anyway, we can be quite similar at times. I also took this Internet IQ test:I'm not entirely sure about the outcome, and am probably more of average intelligence. It may just says that I'm quite logical. I wouldn't believe that in just 18 questions one's IQ could be accurately determined, but anyway why not give it a try yourself?
In real life, I work as a support worker with adults who have learning difficulties (that's Care Assistant in old money). In the words of the famous Faith No More song, "It's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it" :-)

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'm pretty easy going on who I'd like to meet via my MySpace space as long as it includes REAL PEOPLE and not just SPAM bots that link through to porn. Musicians, artists, climbers, programmers, gamers, journalist, keep fit people, sports fans (cricket and footy mostly) and anyone who can play Squash - I have an interest in all of these and more. A note to SPAMMERS - if you're going to try and add me to send me a load of SPAM, then *at least* make an effort with the profile. Don't be lazy, as I have yet to be caught out.

My Blog

Why I won't be voting for 'compassionate conservatism'.

Well, the conference season is over now, and we, the British public, will soon be asked to vote in a new Government, or stay with the status quo (not the band, by the way). The choices seem to be betw...

1000 and 50.

This week has seen two milestones in the printed world. Firstly, and most importantly for me, is Micro Mart's 1,000th issue. I have been writing the 'Retro' column for this magazine since issue 686, t...

Homebrew... the new bedroom programming.

In the 80s, it was called bedroom programming. But as the computer industry changed here in the UK, moving from home computers to video games consoles, so did the type of user. The patient users from ...

Return to a simpler life.

Once up on a time, I used to be a passionate advocate for the usage of old computers in today's modern world. They're simple, you see, just like I am. They work, and despite obvious short-comings both...

A thank-you!

Five years ago this month I started writing for Micro Mart; it was a retro computer column I had undertaken, but unlike others, I was given a free hand as to what to cover. So, I choose to focus on ho...

Problem solved.

Ramshaw Rock is the place that Tom and I went to yesterday. It's in the Peak District, past Congleton and into Staffordshire. To the North of us, we saw what looked like a sprinkle of snow on the hill...

I originally posted this on my bullet-in, but no one seems to want to play my games :-( so anyway, I thought I'd open it up to anyone who might stumble across it, any creative writers or such like. If...

In need of a partner.

Whilst in my current job, as an "Adult Support Worker" (that's Care Assistant in old money), I've been working with this young chap who's very sporty and athletic. Basically, he's happy to be doing, b...
