Rising from the ashes of antiquated computers and forgotten video consoles comes the audio/visual onslaught that is Blip Festival: Europe. The North American Festival, presented by Manhattan arts organization THE TANK and NYC artist collective 8BITPEOPLES, has rocked New York City for the past three years with over one hundred performer and thousands of attendees. Now, in collaboration with the good people of Platform4, they are assembling some of the best performers in the world in Aalborg, Denmark on July 24 & 25.
Over the course of two thrilling days expect your senses to be pummeled by some of the hottest emerging voices in a movement that showcases artists creating live music and visuals on classic hardware like the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Commodore 64, The Nintendo Game Boy and the venerable Atari ST. Continuing the Blip Festival’s goal of highlighting the global Chip Music phenomenon and its related disciplines, Blip Festival: Europe’s mission is showcasing genre-defying stuntmen pushing hardware beyond the limits of anything conceived by their original designers. Selected from a cross section of the world’s most engaging live musicians and visualists, the evening slate of concerts enclose community focused daytime film screenings, presentations, and workshops that showcase what might be the worlds first open source art movement. The goal of the festival is the same as earlier incarnations, to inform and to rock, to push this nascent scene beyond its underground roots and into its rightful place as one of the worlds most exciting and dynamic electronic music movements.
