About Me

Funky Groovy Acoustic/Electric Folk Souljazz Blues R&B Newgrass Music

I am a working musician living in Brooklyn, NY and fortunate enough to make a living singing, playing the banjo and guitar. Tostitos new advertisement aired during the Fiesta Bowl, and features my banjo playing as the only musical accompaniment to this nutty 'North Country' TV add. Two wacky Quaker Oats Chewey Bar TV ads have my banjo playing on them and are running this summer. I love all styles of music.

"There are several musicians that play more than one instrument, and quite a few who are also fine vocalists, but Tuey Connell, whos trio appears tonight at the Bluebird Cafe, is truly unique among singers and players." -The City Paper, Nashville.

My stellar NYC band is a well-oiled grooving machine with which we explore the sound of well...sonic vibrations in our own mixed up style. Songs and songwriting are as important to me as ensemble playing and improvisation. We are currently working on a new album which should be out later this year (2008) - a couple of the new songs are posted above in a demo format.

Over the years, I have been able to perform and/or record with some amazing musicians including: Taj Mahal, Arturo Sandoval, Vassar Clements, Robbie Fulks, Livingston Taylor, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Don Stiernberg, Slavek Hanzlik and others as well as play radio and TV jingles. Sometimes, I hold and make additional noise with a lap steel or chromatic harmonica - harmonica being particularly noisy in my amateur hands (but... it is my geeky hobby).

A Few Personal Highlights:

Composition Fellowship Award from the Illinois Art Council
Austin City Limits with Robbie Fulks
JF Kennedy Center packed house/standing ovation w/ 'Gil & Tuey'
Touring w/ the late great Vassar Clements
Recording with Taj Mahal
Minneapolis Winter Jazz Festival - Orchestra Hall w/ Dianne Reeves
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you out at a show sometime soon.

Peace,

Tuey
