Dave Oliver

Dazzling, dynamic and distinguished are just a few words that describe the talented piano player Dave Oliver. With a colourful, committed approach, adaptable technique and a proficiency and desire to improvise both wisely and creatively, he can embrace a range of musical scenes from the most Caliente of sweaty salsa bars to the jovial 50’s swing and cocktail jazz sought after at weddings and other private functions. In his early days, learning scales and classic repertoires from the age of seven - under careful guidance from parents and a sound musical education – he began developing his own patient style finding inspiration from musicians such as Scott Joplin, George Shearing and Oscar Peterson to name but a few.

As he came of age, Dave began his progressive adventure deeper into the world of music achieving his practical diploma certificate in classical music and playing jazz and funk and popular sounds professionally on ferries, in bars and at private functions; improving his ever sharpening approach under the guide and callaboration of like minded souls. In 1998 he enrolled at Middlesex University, studying music and jazz. It was here he met his wife to be Claudia from Bogota, Colombia. This meeting was the catalyst for him becoming immersed and captivated in the Latin music scene and he quickly found a love for the rhythm and colour of latin American dance music that met with his character so well.Since graduating with a 1st (Hons) in the summer of 2001 he has taught at a number of schools, running jazz and Latin ensembles and providing kids with one to one tuition. He is involved With Latin groups Los Buendia, fronted by his wife Claudia (they also work as a duo on occasions) and Manteca, a group based in London. On a personal front he has formed 'The Dave Oliver Organisation', that plays a mixture of Soul, Rock and Roll and 50' swing. Musicians he has worked with recently include Ola Onabule.
