Billy Williams

About Me

Billy Williams understands music. He keeps it simple, defined, melodic and classic. A fan of many 60s and 70s rock n' roll bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin, he plays a diverse array of pop/rock and tries to create a sound within the classic rock/acoustic medium. Inspiration also floods in from the folk music of Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention, and the equally influencial blues jams of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Steppenwolf. Billy started out as a guitarist and singer in many rock bands, most them delivering a much heavier sound than he is used to today. He has had a long amateur career playing various rock forms such as punk, classic rock, metal and indie, but is most suited playing the traditional sound of the 60s and 70s. His hippie roots have helped him develop a musical bond with folk music and he has always enjoyed the soft, gentle melodies and political tunes of The Band, Crosby Stills and Nash and Buffalo Springfield, and is an avid fan the Woodstock '69 festival and its idealistic approaches to the peace and love aesthetic. He has also delved into psychedelia, but that is a hazy memory of years past! Since picking up a guitar at 14, he has had trouble fighting the temptation to constantly play, jam and write songs which he himself would enjoy listening to, and with his various bands (including Billy & The Poorboys) he has been naturally suited to playing covers of his favourite bands. Billy has recently been touring with Cotswoldian legends Sweet Leaf and has played with the supreme indie group Chief Pinkton, as well as writing lyrics, scripts, poetry and short stories as a creative past time. Billy is currently preparing a temporary move Down Under to expand and develop his future aspirations in the world of popular music and film (his other passion). As a solo performer, Billy obviously enjoys the acoustic aspect of the guitar sound, but still has the urge to rock the casbah! In 2006 his solo career launched when he met successful music producer Matt Thomas of Mosquito Music, and the two set out to rediscover the lost world of classic folk rock. Billy's debut single I Was Born (originally a tune written in 1999 by rock gods Krome) is available for download and has already recieved much critical acclaim. Two more songs, Hay and Livin' Free, will be added onto Myspace in December and feature on his Get Your Kicks EP. He will be on an extensive tour around Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and America in 2007 before heading back to the UK. Behold the Billy Williams experience! He's folking awesome.
