Band Members: Biography::
I am a guitarist and singer/songwriter. Newport, Wales is where I was born and bred, but I've been based in London since 2000, where I've been working as a solo artist, with various duos and trios, and with the UK soul band Spengler .
My musical influences include classic soul, samba and bossa nova, psychadelic funk, hard bop and afrobeat music - amongst other things.
I mainly perform as a solo artist [ guitarandvoice.co.uk ] or in duos/trios/quartets with amazing musicians like Bukky Leo [Black Egypt / Fela Kuti], Max Grunhard [Impossible Ark / Quantic] and Roberto Manzin [Victor Hugo / James Brown].
As a solo artist I have held residencies at the Dogstar in Brixton, Number Ten in Ladbroke Grove, the Hilton Trafalgar Square, Masons in Ladywell, La Gondola in Battersea, the Alma in Crystal Palace, the Old Dairy in Crouch End and Si Mangia in Forest Hill. With my duos and trios I've held residencies at the Wyndham Grand in Chelsea, Gold Coast in Brixton, Viva Viva in Crouch End and the Gaucho Grill in Picadilly.
My preferred axe is a Godin Multiac electric classical guitar, through an AER amp [Compact 60 or Alpha], but I also have an Epiphone Chet Atkins electric nylon string, an Amalio Burguet model 2A classical, a cheaper B&M classical and a mex Fender Jazz bass. In my home studio setup there is also a Roland GR-1 guitar synth which I use for pads, vibes, rhodes sounds etc.
Contact me on 07931 777637 or email [email protected] with booking enquiries or to licence tracks off the player. References from places I've held residencies and people for whom I've played private functions are also available on request.

What's on the player?:
'All that you want', 'Sentimental Lullabies' and 'Today' are all original compositions by me, which I recorded solo [guitar and voice live without overdubs] at the Barbershop Studios in New Jersey USA on the 5th of December 2007. These are available for licensing.
'Beautiful', is a collaboration between me and Neil Pollock [Spengler's producer], with a fluegelhorn solo by the NYJO's Mark Armstrong. It was on Spengler's first 12" release on Bermuda Triangle. 'Play' and 'Too Hot' are also collaborations between myself and Neil. 'Play' is from an original idea by the superb jazz/funk guitar player Thierry Paul, and 'Too Hot' features the wonderful Maiya James on BVs.
'Last Call for the 7'45', 'I Need Your Loving', 'Squeeze' and 'Midnight' are all my own original compositions produced by me in my home studio, using a Godin guitar and an Epiphone Chet Atkins [both electric nylon-string guitars], a Fender Jazz Bass, a Roland GR-1 guitar synth and an MPD16 to control VST drums in Cubase.
Bermuda Triangle Records:
Spengler 's first official release 'Good Things' appeared summer of 2007 on the Tru Thoughts label's latest 'Shapes' compilation and got a marvellous reception from DJs, musos and beatfreaks worldwide.
We followed that up with a very limited edition 12" of two tunes ['Justify' and 'Beautiful' plus 'Beautiful' Surra Remix] for our own imprint, BERMUDA TRIANGLE RECORDS . The 12", which dropped in July 2007, has been supported by DJs like Patrick Forge [Kiss], Dom Servini [Wah Wah 45s], Chris Phillips [Choice FM / TheJazz], Michael Rutten [Compost / Soulsearching], Simon Harrison [Basic Soul], Tim Scott [Samurai] and Sammy Goldbourne [New Style Radio].
Spengler 's releases on BERMUDA TRIANGLE RECORDS are distributed through Adela Street and are available from good record stores such as
Imagenes , Juno and
iTunes online,
Soul Brother in London, Piccadilly Records and
Fat City in Manchester,
The Record Room in Nottingham, and
Rush Hour Records in Amsterdam.
In 2009 Spengler will be releasing some more singles and then our long-awaited debut album!
I will also be releasing a solo acoustic LP and an LP by my wierdo electro-jazz side project, the Bionic Taskforce , so watch this space.
