I got my start back in 1989 when my boy Milton was mixin’ club tracks on his dope Numark 1800s and PPD mixer ( LoL yeah old skoo niggaaaz LoL) I was so blown away by how he could transition 1 track to another and do it so seamlessly!! I was like WOW! I gotta try that! So he gave me a busted old radio shack mixer (LoL).
I took that sucker home and hooked it up to an 8 track player on deck 1 and a cassette deck on 2. And thus "Dj Rock G" was born. As I up graded my equipment (many many times over) from tables from mostly pawn shops (cuz I lived in da hood and was broke) I decided to change my name to "Dj Rubber Handz" Because I used to wear rubber balloon tips on my fingers to better scratch and cue with. Years went by and my collection of Hip Hop & House grew to several thousand dollars worth. But I was still missing the "no way in the world could I ever afford them $369 Technics 1200s....." At that time that’s what they cost.
I then got into some trouble and had to make a quick move back to Brooklyn, where I got a job on 42nd St. selling hip hop gear. My schedule was M-S 10am-2am and Sundays were my short days 10am-midnight. yup i worked 7 days a week with no days off & I never called in sick. I would get paid $4.50/hr + comm. On payday I would always get paid in cash and no O.T.! I never had time to spend my loot (well only on my lunch break) so I would have last weeks pay in my pocket and getting paid again in my hand.
Anyway, I decided it was time I bought a "real" dj system cuz I was kinda high rollin' now. So I went to one of those bs electronic equipment stores on 42nd and coped 2 Gemini 1200s and a mixer for $500.00....(Yeah i got beat)
Anyway I finally got tiered of the crazy hrs. and chasing shoplifters so we could bring ‘em back to the store and beat ‘em up' (lol) I quit and moved back to MD. wit my new system.
By then I had collected tons of more music (mostly house & freestyle). I had that little bs system for like 3 years until I finally saved up enough cash to by my first set of 12s @ at like $489 ea. A few more years went by and over the years I bought and sold 4 or 5 sets of 12s. All while collecting more and more music.
Anyway lets cut this short. Met my wife (Fresh Mama) in 1998. I wasn’t djing then cuz I had sold my last dekz and gave away all my music.
She soon bought me a shiny new set of 12s and re named me "Dj Dadeo" As the months went by she always bought me new gear. ie samplers, speakers, mixers, MPC, you name it! I started collecting massive amounts of music again really fast. Spinning mostly house & hip hop. A year or 2 went by and we went to this jam in DC called "Home grown" a bboy night club on 14th st. It was dope! Crazy vibe with dope music!......Then we wen’t again the next week and it was gone.....just like that....no vibe, no bboys. Some time later we went to a Bboy Candy event in VA. this was like in 2000. We clicked with him and he kinda gave us the idea of doing an event since I was a dj and we had equipment.
I then started my bboy breakz collection and started to mix and mess around with breaks. We decided to do our first jam in June of 2001 called Breakers Delight. Since then we have done well over 20 jams both in and out of town. I have collected and produced over 10hrs of bboy breaks and Funkz. I have 15 bboy cds out, (yup 15 not just 1 or 2...) Up graded my equipment from the standard now $500.00 Technics, to the so much better $1000.00 Pioneer CDJ MK2s and a Pioneer DJM 909. I have also upgraded my full system to ten 15" speakers and 5000 watts to kick any jam right!
I don’t get into the whole 12s vs CDs thing cuz as u know now I bought, played, and sold more 12s then most I know today. I used to be one of them dissin the CD Djays. But when I got a hold of the Pioneers..... I don’t call them cd players nor dose pioneer. They are "Digital Turntables" cuz EVERYTHING I could ever do on 12s I can do on my Pioneers and alot more thus taking me to the next level of the break beat dj. Not to mention Im not spending thousands of dollars on wax (that’s gonna stop being produced in 2009) either. But trust I still dig..... But no more long trips to NY to get the dope breaks. Now I can make my own, burn ‘em, rock ‘em at a jam and have bboys come and ask me about my beatz!..........
