About Me

Post Modern Americana, Roots rock, alt-country or something else, Boxcar's original sound is just too loud for country. Whether you call it Alt-Country or just plain Americana-Rock, the songs are the result of a decidedly diverse musical journey through space and time. From traditional folk influences, 60's-era trendsetters, punk and 80's “new wave”, to R.E.M., Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, brothers, Mark and Jason Ward and childhood buddies Lennie Dietsch and Michael Carpenter have never had blinders on. As kids, they were exposed to everything from Swedish and German polka's, Irish jigs and reels, and old-time music from The Deseret String Band, with whom their uncle Rock played and toured to early Who. These early influences were overlayed and intertwined with sprinklings of Bob Dylan, The Kinks and Arlo Guthrie to name a few. The on to Joe Jackson, The Heats, The Beat, B-52's, Clash and everything in between. The result is a unusual open-ness to diversity - allowing a refreshing unique ability to create sounds outside of the box. With ventures into all styles, we have always despised the idea of being put into a musical box. With our own individual writing styles, we provide a unique blend of songs and sounds to complement the whole. Boxcar’s music is energetic, honest and heartfelt. So climb aboard.........Special thanks to Paul Linford for his patience and technical assistance. Inspiration graciously provided by our families and our peeps.
