DJ JDS

North Philly's own DJ JDS "Da Strippa" has been DJing for well over 20 years. JDS learned to DJ at an early age from his older brother whoDJ'd as well. Since he couldn't afford his own equipment at the time, JDS learned through secret sessions on his brother's tables. JDS's skills shone through when his brother's friends would actually request JDS over his older brother. Originally as a hobby, 10 year old JDS did parties and other events from junior high events and up. In fact, JDS recalls having to stand on milkcrates to reach the DJ tables. JDS's big break happened when 3 X's DOPE asked him to DJ. Replacing DJ Woody Wood as their house DJ, he became personal friends with the group. Touring with 3 X's DOPE, JDS was able to gain national exposure while still under his own personal label. The next step in JDS's career came from a phone call to work with EVE. JDS was asked to become the house DJ for all the groups under Black Friday Management which included EVE and Freeway. He later moved on to become EVE's personal DJ. Traveling with EVE gave JDS national attention. He toured Africa, London, Germany and Amsterdam. JDS was also featured with EVE on major TV shows such as Saturday Night Live, Regis & Kelly, Soul Train, MTV and BET. After years of touring, EVE moved onto other ventures. JDS used this time to develop himself in a different arena. In 2003 he was hired to work for WPHI (now 100.3 The Beat) as a DJ and representing the Promotions Department on the streets. JDS-The Ultimate Block Hugga, always repped for the streets. Whether he was broadcasting from Pinnacle Nightclub or DJ'ing at the Reebok Store JDS always had the City on lock. He worked his way through the ranks starting as a fill-in DJ, later earning his own shift from 10p-11p weeknights. Nothing could prepare JDS for what was about to happen-his own nightshow 7p-12a with his sexy co-host Toshamakia.And even though that part of my career is over with 100.3 the beat.
