I like keeping fit and healthy and enjoy long walks in the country, photography, travelling to interesting places, and I sing in a local ladies choir, which raises funds for good causes. During the 1960's I attended Intake High School in Leeds which has always been famous for the performing arts, where I was involved in amateur dramatics and in particular with Shakespeare productions. Our then Headmaster, Charles Gardiner, was well respected in thespian circles, and it wasn't considered out of the 'norm' for distinguished guests such as Diana Rigg to attend our drama evenings. I was also involved in musical productions and was fortunate enough to have (the now late) Jake Thackray as my teacher and mentor !
Scott Walker, because I have already met John Walker and Gary Walker (great guys too) so now there is just one remaining Walker brother left to meet...... "and we'll dream won't we" !.......Surprise, surprise, dreams do come true... I had the pleasure of meeting Scott in Manchester whilst attending the premiere of the CandoCo Dance Company production of "And Who Shall Go To The Ball ?" for which Scott has written the music. You can read more in 'What a Weekend' blog.
I have always liked The Walker Brothers and particularly the music of Scott Walker, The Beatles and Abba. I also like Enya, Joan Armatrading,David Bowie, P. J. Proby, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Gene Pitney, Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music, The Kinks, Nancy Sinatra, Lee Hazelwood, Richard Hawley and too many more to mention. I also like a bit of Mozart and Beethoven now and again !In addition I like 'musicals' particularly those of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and I really enjoy going to see local amateur dramatic productions, of which we have a wealth in this area.type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/cz7eV4i9Mh0" height="350" width="425" ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEYWGQMqC74 .. width="425" height="350" ..
Slushy old classics like 'Gone with the Wind' 'Little Women' 'Pride and Prejudice' 'National Velvet' 'Ryans Daughter' etc. More recently I enjoyed 'Titanic'.
I enjoy the chat shows such as Jonathan Ross and Michael Parkinson. I also enjoy the 'soaps', my favourites being Coronation Street and Emmerdale, and the light dramas set up here in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside e.g. Heartbeat and The Royal. I enjoy a good play, especially those written by the talented Kay Mellor, who is somewhat of a local hero round these parts.
Daphne Du Maurier is my favourite author. Thomas Hardy, H.E. Bates, Jane Austin etc. I also enjoy reading a good auto/biography.
