Gillian was born and raised in Vancouver and discovered at an early age that music was her passion. She has been singing and writing songs ever since."I've loved to sing for as long as I can remember and I don't have many childhood memories that don't involve music in some way," she says; "I started making up songs when I was about 12, and in high school, I spent my free time writing music with a friend of mine. Then about 2 years ago, I decided that I wanted to pursue music seriously and took up the guitar so that I could accompany myself and write my own stuff."Over time, Gillian developed her own personal style, which has been heavily influenced by a number of folk and acoustic artists like Alan Doyle, Sean McCann, Bob Hallett, Leonard Cohen, Sarah Mclachlan, Jann Arden, PPM, Allison Crowe, Simon &; Garfunkle, Joni Mitchell, Pete Seeger.She writes about what she knows, and each of her songs is a reflection of some part of her life. She writes about the people who inspire her. She writes about their struggles and their strengths, and she writes about her own.When asked what she feels is the true message of her music, she responds, "The thing that I really want the people who listen to my stuff to get out of it, is that whatever you're feeling right now, someone's been there, felt the same way and has gotten through it... and so will you.""I hope you enjoy my music," she then finishes, "I enjoyed making it."Gillian continues to win audiences over with her unique sound and her profound lyrics. I'm sure that we will be hearing much more from her in the future.
