About Me
Rumur Hang is a 360-degree musical project that defies definition and refuses to be pigeonholed. Conceived and brought into existence in March 2005 by the meeting of four musicians from very diverse musical backgrounds, each with his own musical baggage and experience in tow to contribute and pool into the creative process, with the declared aim of reaching a common goal, a shared musical vision. Rumur Hang isn"t a jazz quartet. They have chosen a bigger, hopefully, no-limits field of action to play on: total improvisation, jazz-based, intense musical dialogue and interplay. Drawing on a collective "stream of consciousness" of everything that they have ever experienced, felt, learned, heard, played or lived through musically, their mission is to create a spontaneous language of musical expression, in that finely balanced instant that exists between immediateness and knowing your own intentions and capabilities, a happening, which continues to expand and evolve for precisely that simple reason. It's happening. The creative flow and direction of Rumur Hang destines it to be a perennially "work in progress" project, forever in a state of flux, exploring every type, style and expression not only in the lexicon of music, but also from a reflection on themes and concepts of an extra-musical nature. In this context of musical investigation and experiment, composition and written scores as understood and intended in traditional terms cannot be used. In its wide-open search of a "global metal language" Rumur Hang makes no attempt to capture or appeal to particular groups of listeners nor does it intend to impose any kind of limits on the means or method employed to fulfil this mission. If all doors have to be opened and all roads gone down to achieve this goal, then so be it. In this workshop / laboratory the expressive potentiality of electronic sound is melded and fused with those of more traditional acoustic ones. The electronic synth takes first place in this order of things as the digital instrument that, by its very nature, lends itself to the manipulation of sound. Amplification and electronic effects are also harnessed to broaden the expressive scope and potential of guitar and double bass, useful digital tools, which also permit the creation of multi instrumental sounds. The musical influences most detectable in this heady anarchistic mix constitute some of the most notable names of musical bench markers and milestone setters: Eric Dolphy, Aphex Twin, Luciano Berio, Miles Davis, avant-garde and totally free jazz as purveyed by Ornette Coleman and the aleatoric compositions of John Cage. Even the name Rumur Hang underlines the intentions of this project; it is the literal translation and pronunciation of "White noise" into the Italian Neapolitan dialect. Yes, white noise, that imperceptible sound wave that is inevitably produced by an amplifier that is left switched on and produces all audible frequencies at the same intensity. Creativity and curiosity linked to the need to communicate in absolute freedom are the constituting elements of white noise and the ineffable alchemy that gives life to Rumur Hang.
