About Me

I'm a twentysomething that has logged far too many hours at a keyboard and far too few under the stars. I guess it helps that there are no such thing as stars in Chicago. I'm still a Boy Scout at heart, but I'm also a techno freak and it's hard to plug in a power adapter to a tree.33

My Interests

Computers - Apple obviously. See current employer. . . Camping/hiking - 10 years as a Boy Scout tends to leave it's impression on a kid. Rock climbing - on real rocks if possible, but indoor walls and/or cool buildings work too. Laser Quest - I'm a nerd. I came to terms with that fact years ago. Now I embrace it and it takes me around the country making friends and getting me very very drunk. Reading - Unfortunately I'm in the middle of 14 books right now and I haven't had time to touch any of them for a couple months. Photography - I'm an artist, but I can't draw! I prefer to let my eyes and my cameras do the work. Besides, photography is 90% math and I'm a nerd so of course I love math. Driving - The world is just right from the driver's seat. I guess owning my dream car helps. . .

Music:

My taste in music is constantly rotating through a collection of favorites. I'm kind of an old fogey and not much for current music, but every once in a while I find another band to add to the rotation. The current favorites are: Arcade Fire, Beck, Ben Folds, Weezer, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, The Aquabats, Nine Inch Nails, The Presidents of the United States of America, Mr. Scruff, Bjork, The Get Up Kids, Morphine, Smashing Pumpkins, The Who, and Daft Punk. Tomorrow, who knows? Maybe some Eazy-E and Marilyn Manson.

Movies:

Fight Club, The Matrix (yes, all 3), Almost Famous, Hackers, The Crow, Clerks, all of Quentin Tarantino's work, 28 Days Later, Waking Life, Orgazmo, The Abyss, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Mononoke Hime, All That Jazz, Romeo+Juliet, Spider Man 1+2, Serenity, Interview With the Vampire, Super Troopers, Dark City, LOTR trilogy, Star Wars 4-6, Saving Private Ryan, Trainspotting, Empire Records, Heat, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Big Lebowski, Office Space, Blow. Anyway, I'm a movie freak.

Television:

Television rots your brain. But I've been known to keep up with Heroes and Battlestar Galactica. I watch them on my computer, though. So it doesn't count! Oh, and I was just introduced to the Venture Brothers. Those are DVD purchases in my near future.

Books:

The Elegant Universe, The Art of War, 1984, The Hobbit, A Brief History of Time, The Great Gatsby, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Book of Five Rings, Fahrenheit 451, The Universe in a Nutshell, House of Leaves, Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash, Zodiac, The Diamond Age, The Baroque Cycle (I'm a Neal Stephenson groupie)

Heroes:

I can never really recall having any "heroes". I prefer to move in my own direction. When you set goals or look up to someone and strive to be like them you are limiting your own capabilities. Try to be your own hero. Push yourself for no other reason that to see what you are made of.
