About Me

String Driven Thing were part of the famed Charisma stable of the early 70's, alongside Genesis & Van Der Graaf Generator. Fronted by husband and wife Chris & Pauline Adams, and featuring virtuoso violinist Graham Smith, they released three cult albums, the last of which, ['The Machine That Cried'] proved so dark that the label wielded the censor's scissors. [The sanitised version was hailed as a “staggering achievement” by Guardian rock critic, Martin Walker.]Charisma's problem was that String Driven defied classification. In the course of three albums they'd gone from a psychedelic folk tinged trio, to a frenetic, drummerless four piece and thence to the juggernaut that delivered doomladen tracks like 'Heartfeeder'. Rather than hang on to the tiger's tale, the label insisted that henceforth, all material must be demoed, and sick of the artistic interference, the Adamses quit the band and returned to their native Glasgow. The 90's saw sporadic reunions, one of them recorded for posterity ['$uicide Live in Berlin']. while Chris' German solo album ['The Damage'] resurfaced on the esoteric Ozit label. Now, out of the blue, comes 'Moments of Truth', the first String Driven studio album in 30 years. So why now? Well, 60 is a moment of truth for anyone. So many songs unrecorded... how much time left?During the pre-launch period, they're doing a few low key warm up gigs. Anyone lucky enough to catch them should be in for an unexpected treat.
