Hi my name is Daniel McCoy, or you my know me as Colt. I was a redshirt freshman for the 2005 National Championship Texas Longhorns. In high school I attended Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas where I was coached by my Father, Brad McCoy.As a freshman,in college, I red-shirted during the team's 2005 national championship season and served as the quarterback for the scout team in practice against the starting defense. During this time, I was officially listed as the number three quarterback behind Vince Young and Matt Nordgren. However, I did not play in any games during the season, as coach Mack Brown elected to keep me on the bench so that 2005 did not count as one of his four years of eligibility. Instead, Brown chose to play Matt McCoy (no relation to me) in four separate game situations where we had a commanding lead. This led to confusion on the parts of many sportcasters. Seeing that someone named McCoy was entering the game, and seeing me, Colt McCoy listed as third on their depth charts, they would mistakenly refer to Matt McCoy as me whenever Matt would enter a game. It was funny because which game my Dad didnt go to he would still watch the game hoping to see me go in. But when he heard my name on the game he would get so exited, then realize it wasnt me.high school:
i was born September 5th, 1986 in Hobbs, New Mexico. I am the son of Jim Ned High School football coach Brad McCoy. During my years at Jim Ned High School I was a three-year letterman from the quarterbacks position helping lead the mighty Indians to a 34-2 record during those 3 years. I finished my high school career as the all-time leading passer for the State of Texas in Division 2A, I was 4th overall in Texas high school football history. Twice I was named the AP 2A Offensive MVP and first-team all-state selection, as well as Texas Sports Writers Association first-team all-state twice. During that time I completed 536 or 849 passes for a 63.1% completion rating and a total of 9,344 yards and 116 touchdown passes; the 116 TDs ranks me second in Texas prep history
