About Me

TORONTO SINGER/SONGWRITER IS KNOWN FOR FOLKISH CABARET-ISH CONCERTS THAT MIX A LOT OF COMEDY IN WITH THE MUSIC. NANCY PLAYS GUITAR AND BANJO, AND USUALLY WORKS WITH THE WITTY PIANIST BOB JOHNSTON. BOB AND NANCY ARE TWO THIRDS OF THE WRITERS (ALONG WITH NEW YORKER JEFF HOCHHAUSER) OF THE MUSICAL"ANNE AND GILBERT" SO IT'S NOT SURPRISING THAT THEIR SHOWS HAVE A KIND OF CHAOTIC THEATRICALITY.A FEW FACTS ABOUT NANCY WHITE:Most popular c.d.: "MOMNIPOTENT:SONGS FOR WEARY PARENTS/ CD with most erotic cover: "STICKERS ON FRUIT"/ Most surprisng c.d. to be included on: "The World's Greatest Hockey Hits: Vol.1". Native name: Arrives Cranky/ Best old project: Fifteen years writing and singing topical songs for CBC radio's "Sunday Morning"/ Best new project: "ANNE AND GILBERT" - first produced in 2005. This summer there are productions in Summerside,PEI, and in Kingston,Ontario. In the fall, the Kingston production (staged by the 1000 Islands Playhouse in Gananoque) will tour to seven Ontario towns, and there will be a community theatre production, by the Goya theatre group, at the Centrepointe Theatre in Ottawa.(Info at anneandgilbert.com and MySpace.com/anneandgilbertmusic). Uncalled-for talent: ability to whistle through her tongue. Family oddity: She and her three brothers were all born in leap years. Most astonishing honour: Being crowned Miss Manure at Puck's Farm/ Most humbling experience: Trying to do comedy on stage with Wendell Ferguson and the mysterious Roger James/ Best folk festival trick: Organizing Leonard Cohen tributes/ Longtime fear: Putting an eye out while changing guitar strings/ Best children: Suzy Wilde (StoneFox) and Maddy Wilde (Spiral Beach)/ Troubling question: Is being a band mom as embarrassing as being a musician's chick?

'ANY OTHER WAY' and Ron Nigrini

I thought it would be fun to put up "Any Other Way" - on the off-chance that country duos looking for duets would stumble upon it and record it and perform it and always fill in a SOCAN form.Ron Nigri...

BALLERINA IN THE WINGS

"Ballerina in the Wings" was the most expensive song I ever recorded. It's a co-write - something I've rarely done. I was thinking about dancers - the image of perfection they present on stage vs. how...
