Born deep in the jungles of Funktopia, Rick R. learned the ways of the Funktopian tribe at an early age. After mastering the principles of the Funk, he journeyed forth to find his place in this funky world.
Arming himself with the deadly beats and secret knowledge of the Funktopians, Rick has dropped rhythms that have caused several dance floors to spontaneously combust.
Dj Rick R began djing in 1994, shortly after he began producing his own music in 1993.
In '95 he and partner Rick P. opened up shop with Velocity Recordings, which eventually became a respected independent nyc House label with releases & remixes from artists such as: King Britt, Kings of Tomorrow (Sandy Rivera), Jay-J & Chris Lum, Soul Dhamma, Cevin Fisher, Lenny Fontana, Frankie Feliciano, Scott Wozniak, Brick Nation, Zero World, Miguel Migs, Dubtronic, Thinkhead, Mark Grant, Brother's Vibe, Deep Swing, 95 North, Jaymz Nylon, Afro Saxon, & more.

Favorite spot?
I love the San Fran. house sound, but have always been influenced by early Chicago style house; Cajual, Relief, etc.
Equipment used:
Roland Juno-6, Roland Fantom X6, Logic Audio, Cubase SX3. Tannoy and Event 20/20 monitoring; Hafler and Samson Amps. Prievously have used Korg Karma, Prophecy, Triton, M3. Nord lead 2, Kurzweil K2000, K2500R; Novation BassStation, Roland JD-800, and more.
When did you know that you wanted to produce music?
Well, I started to get interested in the piano at about 5. Not long after, my dad bought me one of the first casio electronic keyboards that had come out; and I was hooked, I probably took that thing everywhere with me. In 1986, when I was 11, I somehow conned my parents into buying an Apple IIe computer, complete with a Roland LAPC-1 sound card, which supported MIDI. With some sequencing software called GlassTracks and a newer Yamaha keyboard I was ready to roll; But, everything changed for me musically with my discovery of rave culture in 1991 or so.
