Emotion meets intensity meets energy... is Frail Soul! A tight nit group for over nine years, the band has existed in numerous incarnations, but the most recent combination is picking up speed and is about to drop the band's first full length studio album, AWAKE! Frail Soul has played all over the bay area including Johnny V's, the Voodoo lounge, the Quarternote, the Caravan, Kimos, the Kings Head, and many other bars, clubs, & house parties in the Bay Area. The band was even invited to play the local band stage at the Vans Warped Tour, but two weeks before the show, their best friend and long time bass player, Brandon Civiellowe, was tragically killed in a car accident, forcing them to bow out of the show. Despite this and many other set backs, they have forged ahead, honing there craft and skill, combining a unique style that could only be described as New Found Glory converges with Iron Maiden and combines with old school Metalica, Atreyu, And Switchfoot. This amalgam of styles, and the band’s energetic and creative stage performances, makes Frail Soul the best show around. Cloud, Calico, Jarad Backlund, Dave Halverson, and Wonders comprise the band's talent.
John Cloud [guitar/lead vocals] comes from a long line of musicians. Taught by his father from an early age, he has been influenced by everything from the Beatles & Chuck Barry to Metalica & Avenged Seven Fold, crafting his vocal style similar to that of Davey Havok of A.F.I. and James Hetfield of Metalica.
Calico [drums/vocals] is a seasoned musician with hundreds of shows under his belt. He has many accolades including playing with Carlos Santana and having his former band, the Jaguars, fashioning a song that made it to number 12 on the Billboard top 100.
Jarad Backlund [guitar/piano/lead vocals] picked up a guitar in his late teens and began to jam with local punk and rock musicians in the Sacramento area. His influences include Switchfoot, MXPX, Five Iron Frenzy, Bad Religion, and Craig’s Brother. He brings a unique mix of punk rock and pop melodies to the driving rock of Frail Soul.
Dave Halverson [bass/vocals] was a typical band geek, but in high school, he switched up his style and started playing guitar for a grunge/punk band named "ID". After being sent by his parents to Jamaica, he came to appreciate the Jamaican ska upbeats along with the Jamaican beat downs. Being released back to America, he came to appreciate how good Jesus was and lead many weekly worship groups. Today he is influenced by the punk scene that emerged out of Berkley, and the melodic underpinnings of Rancid, Op Ivy, Screeching Weasel, O.C Supertones, and Goldfinger.
Each of Frail Soul's talented members adds a unique perspective that coalesces to create a sound full of catchy hooks, driving beats, and harmonious melodies that will leave Frail Soul’s songs stuck in your head for a long time to come.
