Whenever you have truth it must be given with love, or the message and the messenger will be rejected.
-Mahatama Gandhi
We are masters of the unsaid words, but slaves of those we let slip out. -Winston Churchill
Our task must be to free ourselves . . . by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.
-Albert Einstein
In ororchestra we have many nationalities, types, and temperaments. We have learned to forget individual likes, dislikes, and differences of temperament for the sake of music to which we have dedicated our lives. I often wonder if we could not solve the world's problems on a similar basis of harmony. Think what a single individual in a symphony orchestra can accomplish by giving up his individual traits and ambitions in the service of music. . . . Suppose that in life you had the same all-embracing love for the whole of mankind and for your neighbor in particular. Only when every one of us and every nation learns the secret of love for all mankind will the world become a great orchestra, following the beat of the Greatest Conductor of all.
-Artur Rodzinski
If we have no peace it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. ~Mother Teresa
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. ~Martin Luther King Jr
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
-Howard Thurman
On Giving
by Kahlil Gibran
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
For what are your possessions but things you keep
and guard for fear you may need them tomorrow?
And tomorrow, what shall tomorrow bring to the
overprudent dog burying bones in the trackless sand
as he follows the pilgrims to the holy city?
And what is fear of need but need itself?
Is not dread of thirst when your well is full,
the thirst that is unquenchable?

and others by Kahlil Gibran

If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning. ~Gandhi
Failure will never overtake me
If my determination to succeed
Is strong enough. ~Og Mandingo
“I have one life and one chance to make it count for something . . . I'm free to choose what that something is, and the something I've chosen is my faith. Now, my faith goes beyond theology and religion and requires considerable work and effort. My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.â€
-James (Jimmy) Carter
There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls. ~Howard Thurman

What is required of us is that we love the difficult and learn to deal with it. In the difficult are the friendly forces, the hands that work on us. Right in the difficult we must have our joys, our happiness, our dreams: there against the depth of this background, they stand out, there for the first time we see how beautiful they are.
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926)
Serenity is not freedom from the storm but peace amid the storm...
"Do not waste precious time and energy fighting against the current of the river of life. The current, you cannot change. Rather learn to be ever mindful of each wave, each ripple. Listen to what the river is trying to tell you, then ever so subtly plot your course and have Faith that the river will take you there."
-Eric Walton
God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas, but for scars. ~Elbert Hubbard
My imperfections and failures are as much a blessing from God as my successes and my talents and I lay them both at his feet. ~Gandhi
We are not punished for our sins, but by them. ~Elbert Hubbard
A man watches his pear tree day after
day, impatient for the ripening of
the fruit. Let him attempt to force
the process, and he may spoil both
fruit and tree. But let him patiently
wait, and the ripe fruit at length
falls into his lap.
-Abraham Lincoln
Believe in a love that is being stored up for you like an inheritance, and have faith that in this love there is a strength and a blessing so large that you can travel as far as you wish without having to step outside it.
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926)
