Influences: Man... where do ya start? Some of my earliest musical memories were from my brother Wade. I must have been 3 or 4 years old when I heard David Bowie for the first time, I think it was Ziggy Stardust. Then a myriad of other bands followed, like Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, MotorHead, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and others alike, all before I was 7. At the same time, I was also getting my fair share of the brighter side of music. My earliest musical memory is of my Dad leading the congregation in "It is well with my Soul". Those good ole' acapella, Church of Christ tunes, still resonate deep. Besides knowing every hymn ever printed in a protestant song book, my Dad loved the blues, old country, bluegrass and folk music... all of that played a part in what I later found to be my "center". The older I got, the more I liked the harder music, mostly due to my brother Wade who was 11 years older than me and represented everything rebellious. But after I hit about 16, things changed. I got into Jazz & Blues. I found some of my parents old country albums and then... I got into the Allman Bros & The Grateful Dead, whom I credit for getting me into Country Music. I was diggin' some Jerry Garcia one day, when my best friend Jordan McConnell said "hey... you heard this Bluegrass Band Jerry Garcia had in the 70's?" I hadn't and I asked him to play it. It was called "Old & in the Way". I listened and my musical life was changed forever! After a couple of years of listening to bluegrass, I found another genre that pulled me in deeper and closer to what I identify with now. Thanks to my Parents, I had always liked the the old Country guys... George, Merle, Johnny, Willie, etc... I also remembered Kenny Rogers, Alabama, The Gatlin Bros. etc. But when I re-discovered Waylon Jennings for the first time again, something big clicked and started a fire inside me that hasn't stopped. Now here I am... still changing, still listening and still searching for the next song to write that will tell me a little more about who I am.
