Who are the True Headz? The True Headz are two emcees that were born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia (P-Town). Lamont aka Shamel da Sweets and Jay aka Selrahc started rapping in the 6th grade and performed in many talent shows. Selrahc was also the producer and DJ for the group. The graffiti and design artist was Kevin Walden aka Nivek. The True Headz released several underground hits such as Summer Breeze and Automatic Rhymes. The True Headz signed with the independent label P-Town Entertainment in 1994. The president and CEO of P-Town Entertainment was Ben Washington aka Big Wash. Several labels sought after the groups underground sound such as Hollywood Records and PRG/Def Jam Group. After signing with P-Town Entertainment the performance schedule picked up significantly. The group attended many musical seminars and performed all over the place including spots such as P-Town, Virginia; Lumberton, North Carolina; Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; and Queens, New York. In 1995 the True Headz released their first full length 18 track CD entitled ..InnerVibe... This release featured two upcoming MCs at the time, Tameka Valentine, and Tim Skee. Tim Skee who later changed his name to Myalansky signed with the Wu Tang Records along with Joe Mafia, and Napolean as the group Wu Syndicate aka Crime Syndicate. The release of the True Headz InnerVibe CD gave them the opportunity to perform with artists like DJ Flexx, Mad Lion, and Busta Rhymes. The True Headz had the opportunity to meet many emcees such as Fat Joe, Guru, Wu Tang, Keith Murray, Common, Jeru the Damaja, Jam Master Jay, and many more. During the recording of the second True Headz album (which was never released) they brought in underground rapper Ernie D. Ernie D brought an abstract flavor to the groups rugged style. In 1996 Shamel da Sweets departed from the group and migrated to the Washington DC area. Selrahc continued his solo career and live performances. In 1999 Shamel and Sel reunited to record several more unreleased tracks. Presently in 2007 Selrahc is working on new material and productions.
