A Brit (a shorter form of Briton in its modern political sense) is a British person, that is, a resident of the United Kingdom, or of the island of Great Britain.
In Ireland it usually is a derogatory term used by Irish nationalists to denote members of the British army and sometimes also for Irish Catholics considered to be collaborating with British rule.Brit is a prefix which either geographically implies a connection with the British Isles (including the Republic of Ireland and smaller islands) or politically/socially implies a connection with the United Kingdom (excluding the Republic of Ireland and many smaller islands).
