Since 1999, the Robin Cox Ensemble has held over one hundred performances, released two critically acclaimed CD recordings, and been broadcast on over eighty radio stations. In addition to Cox’s own music, this “post-classical†quintet of violin, cello, clarinet, and percussion performs music by composers such as John Luther Adams, Michael Gordon, Steve Reich, Evan Ziporyn, and incorporates amplification, electronic sound, and video in creating their unique concerts. Recent collaborations have included concerts with Pamela Z, Eve Beglarian, Scott Deal, and Brad Dutz in cities across California, Kentucky, Florida, Alaska, and New York. RCE frequently performs in non-traditional venues and has brought to the stage more than thirty collaborations involving video artists, dance companies, and playwrights. Honors include a 2003 nomination by the Los Angeles Weekly as “Outstanding Classical Ensemble/Artist" and the 2002 and 2003 Lester Horton Awards for Outstanding Music for Modern Dance. Members of the ensemble are Robin Cox (violin/composer), Erik Leckrone (percussion), Eric Mellencamp (percussion), Maggie Parkins (cello), Marty Walker (clarinet), and Nic Chaffee (audio engineer). Each has a history of dedication to contemporary music, with affiliations including The California Ear Unit, the Eclipse Quartet, and the Los Angeles Percussion Collective.
