About Me

Born in the hills of St. Mary, Jamaica, Mikey began singing at an early age. Inspired by his mother, who sang and taught Mikey spiritual songs about hope and freedom, Mikey embraced his calling. He began writing and singing his own songs about life in his surroundings. He pursued his musical journey which led to meeting the legendary Peter Tosh. Mr. Tosh had the desire to produce Mikey, but his untimely death prevented the project from getting off the ground.Mikey eventually emigrated to Canada where he met composer/producer, Roberto Philipp. They began to write and record together and released two albums. Mercyless (Broken Records) and Let It Sing (Umana Music Inc./Universal Music). When Mikey's second album "Let It Sing" was released in 2003, it received rave reviews in Canada including being rated best worldbeat album in Canada by Calcopyrite.Mikey has just completed his third record entitled, "These Are The Days". Again, the teamwork of both Mikey Power and Roberto Philipp have created a groundbreaking collection of songs that cross many genres of music but is grounded by reggae roots."A Man Called Poverty" is featured on this site for your enjoyment. It's the first cut off the new album. "Ragamuffin Princess" is from the 2003 release, "Let It Sing".
