"Goth Help Us" (GHU) was an organisation that sadly only lasted just over a year. A worldwide orgnisation of like minded people who just wanted to make a difference and give Goth a better name!
Many of the local chapters have gone on to form their own decentralised version of the work they did under the GHU banner.
The Birmingham chapter of GHU in its original structure has gone to sleep.
What was Goth Help Us?
"Goth Help Us" was founded in April 2006 in the United States and was a grassroots effort to help humanity. With several aims including trying to help the world realise that goths are much more than strange or odd people. We wanted to try to prove to everyone that goths are also compassionate, loving, and extremely caring people. Maybe by helping others, some of us found our smiles again.
Many people have asked us if we were a religious organization; the answer to that is no. It is true we were based on religious principles and seek goodness in all ways, but we were NOT a religious organization. We were not there to further divide each other but to instead bring us all together. There is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. We were just trying to do things the right way.
What did GHU do?
This organization was about wanting to help people and to network with other goths in hopes of trying to help humanity in general. We were organizing blood drives. We were helping the homeless. We were making dreams come true for sick children. We were helping fund animal shelters. We were helping to beautify our cities again. We were helping each other and helping others.
We just wanted to spread peace and also try to help stop the violence against goths.
We collaborated with already well-established charitable organizations, such as The Red Cross, The Humane Society, and Habitat for Humanity. We were NOT a charity. We were a humanitarian organization. We were a peaceful and compassionate sect of people and now we're proving it to the world.
Where did GHU operate?
We had staff all over the world. We wanted to offer assistance globally.
