About Me

Get a scroller sign at ProfileTweaks.com! First discovered Hip Hop in 1982 after stumbling across an import record shop hidden in a seedy alley somewhere in Launceston, Tasmania. Now pathologically addicted to 12" vinyl, became crew DJ for local breakdance group, the Avenue Uprockers. Started performing live under the moniker BJDJ, soon adding the letters MC after be began rapping as he mixed. Alternating DJing at the local skating rink with sneaking out after dark to DJ local pubs and nightclubs in his early teens BJDJMC started Australia's first (and longest running) dedicated Hip Hop radio show on 103.7FM, nostalgically named "Ghettoblast" in 1985. Now with access to recording and mixing gear, BJ experimented with creating his own jams, blending (now) old school east coast Hip Hop with Electro. His tracks were all recorded with the same rig - 3 Technics SL1200 turntables, a borrowed Roland 808 and a dodgy Fostex 4 track cassette recorder. Many tracks were played only once on his radio show, before they would regularly disappear from the radio station library, never to be seen again. Over the years, he continued to work in radio production while completing a diploma in audio engineering, but would rarely get the opportunity to work on his own albums. After moving to Queensland Australia, economic necessity (and a messy divorce) distracted him from his love of music production. BJ ended up working for a cable TV company by day, and appeared on stage at comedy clubs at night as a comic. A chance encounter (a wrong number!) introduced him to his fiancee of 7 years (now seperated) who ran an Adult Shop, and BJ soon ended up judging strip competitions and shooting nude models with both video and still cameras. It was during this time Pimpdaddy B was born. With the internet now meaning PDB could release his own album, under his own terms, he began work on his official debut E.P. "Bitch, where's my money???", a tounge in cheek deconstruction of machismo Hip Hop combined with nostalgic beats and samples. Suddenly PDB discovered a horde of live tapes of his radio show from years gone by, and began reconstructing his old jams from these tapes. Now, he is mixing the album he has always wanted to do, and expects to be finished by Late 2008. In the meantime, he shall be releasing short versions of his work in progress here on MYSPACE.
