My life has mostly been spent in and around the music business. Performing has always been the most gratifying thing in life to me. MySpace gives me the opportunity to discover many great new artists, and connect with a few old favorites too!
I have performed in the Portland area over the past two years, but my first paying gigs were in 1968. I was way under 21, playing rythym guitar, in clubs and bars learning much about people. That's where I learned all the three chords. (One, Four, and Five) *LMAO* Soon after, I began to learn all the seven notes! Life is a journey.
Age 16 was spent rehearsing, performing, and partying! The rest of my time was wasted, including school. (Or so I thought at the time) One band I was with fronted for ZZ-Top while on their first major tour. It was a great experience, and I admit to stealing a couple of licks from Billy Gibbons. Still use'em today. Backwards
I've been lucky to have been in some pretty decent bands. In the mid-70s I played guitar for the 'Steve Long Group' aka 'SLG' from Houston TX, having met Steve while performing with San Antonio based 'Excalibur'. We were local heroes for awhile in South Texas.
1976-78 was spent on the road with 'The Heavyweights' a show band out of Louisville KY, then I played bass for a lounge act in Little Rock, before moving to Houston for some studio work during 1979-80. At this point, I called it quits and thought I'd try to settle down. That's a whole other story...
1987: I started performing again in Pensacola FL, with a 3-piece band called 'Secund Wind'. We stayed together for 3-4 years, but never accomplished much. Being warmed up, I moved back to Texas during the 90s, doing some studio work, playing with some no-name club bands for the money, and then relocated to Las Vegas in 96. My rent was often made working in restaurants, having become a pretty good line cook after leaving the road in 1980. Playing whenever possible, I learned how to use MIDI and did a one-man show for awhile. You know, being able to fall back on my restaurant experience has always helped me to stay alive and well.
