Hailing from London RED RAW have collaborated with a team of guest vocalists and musicians to bring you their debut album.
Thirteen tracks, some refreshingly different, some reassuringly familiar, but all succeed in delivering a standard of reggae we no longer hear from this side of the atlantic as often as we used to.
RED RAW are Drum & Bass duo Basil Barnaby and Otis Kirton who have known and worked with each other on various projects for over 20 years. Playing together as members of their band SWEET DISTORTION which also included Lloyd Brown, they developed their sound and quickly gained a reputation as one of the country’s best young live acts.
After 8 years touring, supporting and performing with some of the biggest names in reggae at the time such as Eek-a-Mouse, Gregory Issacs, Yellowman, Maxi Priest and Barrington Levy, the band took time out to perform and tour in the theatre production Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame, which ran for over 5 years in London’s west-end, Carribean and North America.
Throughout their time on the road with both Sweet Distortion and Black Heroes Basil & Otis forged links and contacts with some of the big names of reggae and due to this were able to convince the likes of Sugar Minott & Frankie Paul to provide some of the guest vocals on their debut RED RAW project. These two giants of reggae are also joined by Lloyd Brown, Queen Omega, Nerious Joseph, Julie Payne, Tony Douglas and Afrikana.
The album contains songs with a variety of feels and themes, from stiff one-drop grooves like ‘Trust in Jah’, superbly voiced by Queen Omega to ‘Sex Down’ and ‘Come Inside’, two sexy Lovers Rock adaptations sung by west London’s Julie Payne. ’Ratafari Love’ sees RED RAW bring ‘three the hard way’ with Lloyd Brown, Nerious Joseph & Queen Omega.
A collection of songs that get stronger the more you listen to it…..Enjoy
