The idea of SoKalypso actually started around the fall of 2003. For years, a couple of our members in Brooklyn, NY had organized (and still do) some of the wickedest basement jams with nothing but the pulsating sounds of soca music playing all night. Since then a few of us took the concept of a strictly soca fete and decided to share it with the general public. We did this at our first 100% Soca fete on March 23rd 2004 at the JRG Fashion Cafe. Needless to say the party was a huge success and since then we've held events at several different club venue's, outdoor/backyard fete's, on the road in Miami/Broward Carnival since 2005 and our most highly anticipated yearly boatride.
Our vision is to continue the rich tradition of so-calypso music. We shall accomplish this while promoting the advancement of the music not only within the Caribbean community, but throughout the general population as well. Through the production of bi-monthly parties, we intend to highlight the sweet lyrics and melodies of the SoKalypso genres, while providing an atmosphere where partygoers can have ah time! Doh hold back the urge or fight the feeling! This is the time to unite and take a wonderful musical journey into a reality!
Sokalypso has been credited for revitalizing the soca party scene in New York City, which for a time was perceived as "non existent". Since Sokalypso's explosion onto the scene, many have and continue to incorporate this concept as part of their own events throughout the New York area and beyond. Sokalypso not only perceives this as a concept, but has taken pride in displaying this as our culture to be appreciated by one and all.
We have also made it our duty to give back to the community. A percentage of our profits from each event is donated to different Caribbean charities. Our charity proceeds vary from medical assistance, children education, disaster relief and many more.
